postheadericon Moschino Perfumes – Love Them or Hate Them

Franco Moschino (1950-1994) was an Italian fashion designer whose career started in 1971 when he worked as a fashion illustrator for Gianni Versace and then for Italian label Cadette, before eventually launching his very own Moschino Couture! Label in 1983.  Moschino designs have always been considered as innovative, colorful, witty, lively, sometimes even bordering on eccentric, but definitely unique and always interesting.

It is with this same line of approach that Moschino Fragrance for ladies was first launched, in 1987. Top notes are oregano, coriander and galbanum; middle notes are nutmeg, carnation, sandalwood, gardenia, patchouli, pepper, ylang-ylang and rose; base notes are amber, musk and vanilla. When used sparingly, it can come off as soft and warm, but with a few more dabs, it becomes bold and heady. As with his clothing designs, Moschino by Moschino provides a happy contradiction of the senses which may be frowned upon some, or loved by others.

Moschino’s most successful line of perfumes is the Chic and Cheap series. The bottle’s shape is purportedly a tribute to Olive Oyl, a fictitious cartoon character with a reed-thin body, much like the models who wear his designer clothes. Launched after Moschino’s death, it is probably also a tribute to Moschino’s funny and satirical outlook about the fashion industry.

The  different designs in each bottle of the Chic and Cheap Series reflect the various moods induced by the fragrances. The original scent Chic & Cheap perfume, launched in 1995, has a red and black design, and has a profile of fresh flowers and musk. L’eau Cheap & Chic, launched in 2001, is sweet, fruity and green. Its orange and green bottle provides a joyful aesthetic value as well. It’s the scent to wear if you want to feel young, fresh and attractive. Cheap & Chic I Love Love, launched in 2004, is sparkly and fresh, due to the bursting notes of citrus and red fruits.

Other notable perfumes by Moschino include Uomo? by Moschino, which is a woody, floral musky fragrance for men. The notes of cinnamon, sage, mahogany, cedar wood, coriander and brazilian rosewood blend beautifully to achieve a very masculine scent that men love and women love on their men. Moschino Funny is a floral-fruity scent catered for young girls. It’s a refreshing spicy-citrusy-flowery scent that’s perfect for the outdoors.

The latest Moschino perfume in the market is Toujours Glamour, launched in 2010. The glamorously bottled perfume is the elegant edition of the Moschino Glamour. Richly intoxicating, this perfume is composed of red currant and green violet leaves  spiced with cardamom as top notes, middle notes of white lily of the valley and jasmine with a hint of bitter almond, and musky base.
